Brief Summary:
This project merges a Participatory Action Research with
the delivery of Certificate III in Youth Work and Certificate II in Community Services programs in Wugularr. The goal of this training was to up skill local community members to fill a number of part time positions available at the Wugularr Youth Centre operated by the Sunrise Health Service. The goal of the research was for CDU to investigate at ways which we can better engage the community and customise VET delivery to achieve better outcomes for this community, including holistic assessment through asset based community projects.

Rationale:

Why are we doing this study?
This study wants to understand and improve the ways training is done in Wugularr. We are especially interested in:

  • Ways we can modify training and education to meet community need
  • Ways training can bring positive change in your community
  • Ways we can deliver training that are flexible

Participation:

What will be expected of participants?
We want to follow your studies that will get you to do a group project to help your community. You will be given blocks of lessons to help you with this task. We will also get you to talk about how you feel and what you would like to change during this time. A report will be written about the project and perhaps a movie and this internet site as well which participants will collaborate to make.

  • The report will recognise the efforts all people doing the project.
  • Participants can choose whether you want their name recorded or not.
  • Participants will be provided with certificates for all training you complete
  • Wugularr will receive a copy of the report and the movie if produced.
  • Participants are free to stop being part of the project at any time.
  • The project will value the Community's ways of discussing things and making agreement.
  • The university is keen to help participants develop their skills
